Wild Parrot San Diego

Lilac-Crowned Parrot eating seeds from a Coral Tree, possibly a Coral Bean or East Indian Coral bean. These birds return to the same area for a week or so to eat the beans and tree parts then they move on to a different part of town. Sometimes the parrots can be seen and heard as they fly east away from the coast in the mornings and then back west toward the coast in the evenings. If you hear them flying above in the sky and watch where they are flying to, sometimes you can catch up to them and see them feeding off of a tree in the area, These parrots are usually in flocks or groups as they feed on trees or fly past. The Lilac-Crowned Parrot in this picture was in a group that included the Red-Crowned Parrots.
